A Study of the Origin of the Mohist School Guo Wanjin, Ai Dongjing
Mozi is an influential person with few records in historical materials, in which a wealth of cultural information is hidden. Narrations and estimations by historians and philosophers had made Mozi gradually became a wellrounded portrayal in scarce documents. The Mohist School orginated from craft, and can be traced back to witchcraft. Sacrifice and military affairs are two crucial things for ancient states in China. Acting as the two distinguished schools, Confucianism devoted to the former, while the Mohist School devoted to the latter. With the significant mark of “craft” in their devotion to military affairs, the words, deeds, and thoughts of the Mohist School show prominent technological approach and military color. Mozi is a prime example developing from to “technique” to “Tao”, an accredited engineer, as well as a giant worshipped by the whole school.
