儒家传统的开放性新探:孝-慈现象分析(笔谈)

 

编者按:儒学复兴不等于简单复古,而是需要重新激活并释放其核心议题的生命力。一方面,经历了一轮又一轮的“以述(本质上是一种解释)代作”之后,传统立场与传统立论本身有待澄明。比如:解释者们在“孝-慈”之间通常下意识地侧重“孝”,那么“慈”是否真的无足轻重?宋明儒学主流将“孝悌”视为具体德目而低“仁”一头,那么“孝悌”是否果真没有充当“仁之本”的理论可能?与此相关,另一方面,澄清传统不可避免引发新的根本性问题。例如:“孝-慈”若具有本体性地位,那又如何解释社会观念影响亲子之情这一现象?一种将家庭关系抬举到根本性地位的思考,终究会引申出怎样的哲学理路?如何表达这种深具中国气派的哲学思路?据此又可以对西方哲学做出怎样的点评与回应?本期推出的“孝-慈现象分析”笔谈,可以说提供了一个传统议题“撕开”来谈的范本,愿能一石激起千层浪而为当代儒学研究注入某种深沉的活力。

 

 

The Phenomenon of Filial Piety and Parental Kindness: Studies of the Openness of Confucian Tradition (Conversation by Writing)

 

Editor’s Note: The revival of Confucianism does not simply mean restoring ancient ways but need to activate and release the vitality of its core issues. On the one hand, through the round after round interpretations, the traditional position or argument itself remains to be clarified. For example, interpreters often throw emphasis on filial piety (xiao) of children, and then kindness (ci) of parents should be of less significance? Although the mainstream of Confucianism in the Song and Ming Dynasties regards filial piety and kindness as concrete virtue items which are of less fundamentality than benevolence (ren)”, must there be no theoretical possibility that filial piety and kindness became the basis of benevolence? On the other hand, it is inevitable to raise new questions when deeply clarifying the tradition. For instance, if filial piety and kindness has an ontological position, how should it be possible that the social concept may shape the parent-child affection as is often happening? What philosophy will eventually flow from this kind of thinking singing high praise of family relationship? How to express this philosophy of Chinese style? How to comment and respond the western philosophy from the perspective of this Chinese thinking? We hope this set of papers will provide a model insinuating deep vitality to contemporary Confucian studies.
