以数字实录华人社会的历史图像:华人社团账本与二战前东南亚华校研究                              

作为东南亚华人社会一类重要的历史文献,华人社团账本具有非常重要的学术与史料价值。一方面,保留下来诸如应和会馆、应新学校等各类社团账本,是账本所属社团自己建立的经济档案。对这些账本的爬梳、整理、分类与解读,可拓展东南亚殖民地时代华人社团经济史的新研究领域。另一方面,数字类的账本记录,具有计量学与统计学意义上的“实录”华人社会历史图像的功能,因而能够为反思与推进现有的包括华人移民帮群社会结构、会馆办学、华文教育等领域在内东南亚华人历史研究提供新资料与新视角。考察新加坡应和会馆、应新学校、海唇福德祠绿野亭、丹容巴葛福德祠等华人会馆、华校、庙宇组织等社团所保留下来的,从1906延续至1953年的各类账本账册,并结合章程、会议记录等其他华人历史档案,在殖民地时代新加坡社会时空的脉络下,透过对应新学校财务收支运作的具体与细致的研究,不难看出二战前应新学校在办学上具有社群化、财务运作制度化与经费来源多元化三个基本的特征。

 

Recording the Historical Image of the Chinese Society with Figures: a Study of the Account Books of Chinese Communities and Chinese Schools in Southeast Asia before World War II                                         Zeng Ling

As a kind of important historical documents of Chinese communities in Southeast Asia, the account books of Chinese communities have high academic and historical value. On the one hand, the preserved account books of Yinghe Guildhall, Yingxin Primary School, and other communities, were the economic archives established by the communities they belonged to. To tease, sort, classify, and interpret these account books, can develop a new research field in On the other hand, the kind of figures in account books could record and reflect the historical images of the Chinese society on the sense of metrology and statistics, which can provide new materials and new perspective for reflecting and promoting the current historical studies of Chinese in Southeast Asia, including the fields of social structure of Chinese immigration groups, guildhall and school, and Chinese education. In the time and space context of colonial Singapore, it could be easily seen through a specific and detailed study of the financial revenues and expenditures of Yingxin Primary School, together with all kinds of the account books persevered by Chinese guildhalls, schools, and temples such as the Yinghe Guildhall, Yingxin Primary School, Fude Shrine, Tanjong Pagar Fude Temple during 1906 to 1953, and in combination of the constitutions, minutes of meetings, and other historical documents of Chinese immigrants that before the Second World War, the running of the school had the following three characteristics of socialization, institutionalization on financial operation, and diversified funding sources.
